Babigloo music programmes
Babigloo Music for Babies was developed by Jenny Gordon with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, SAMP music school in Portugal, Michele O'Brien, Sam Mason and Colin Phillimore.
The workshop programmes explore the seasons through the family cultures of countries surrounding the Arctic circle.
The approach we use is a non verbal, music led based on the music education theories pioneered by the American Professor Edwin E. Gordon. Following our research and training with Professor Paulo Lameiro in SAMP music school Portugal and funded by Arts Council England's - International Artists Development Fund.
We've worked in Children's Centres at Festivals and at one-off events as part of their "offer" to babies 0-12 months.
People say it's different?
Parents feedback from our 6 week programmes and one of sessions at festivals has been amazing:
Because it is different to other types of groups and the babies engage so much.
It has been the best thing I have done since having a baby.
- Parents have started playing instruments they haven't picked up since giving birth and played and sung to their babies.
- They've used the special rhymes and ditties to help self-regulation.
- They watch their baby be central to the 45 minute session and feel that they don't have to speak.
- Early Years Practitioners and other professionals including speech and language therapists and occupational therapists have experienced Babigloo sessions and commented how unique they are.
- This music and theatre session is unlike any other for parent and babies. It is structured and led purely by the use of classical music and vocal sounds, rhythms and patterns. Each session is led by a musician and a theatre facilitator and introduces new instruments, classical music and a variety of sounds. Parts of the sessions are baby led, whereby we listen to babies vocal sounds and create music and patterns with them, thereby starting a musical "conversation".
Because it is different to other types of groups and the babies engage so much.
It has been the best thing I have done since having a baby.
What to expect?
Parents and babies are greeted only by music on arrival, no talking is allowed before or during the class. The only language is music and vocal sounds. Babies can tune out voices, the classical music and structured vocal rhythm's stimulate all the areas of a babies brain.
Props are used during the session to allow participation in the rhythm's.
